Buses in Callao Install Armored Features Amid Extortion Attacks
Bus company Corredor Rosado began fitting its 50-bus fleet in Callao, Peru, with steel driver cabins and 21-millimeter bulletproof glass to defend against extortion attacks. The project, funded equally by the city and the bus consortium, is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026 and includes the integration of satellite-tracked security cameras. This initiative followed a period from August 2024 to July 2026 during which the Public Ministry recorded 25 attacks on Callao transport workers, resulting in nine deaths. Nationwide, the violence remained severe, with 214 attacks against transport workers recorded between August 2024 and May 2026, causing 152 fatalities.
